This web application does not collect, store, or process any personal information from its users for its own purposes. The search functionality is a direct pass-through to the official OpenFEC API, which is a public data source.
For security, debugging, and general traffic analysis, our hosting server's nginx service automatically logs standard access information. This includes your IP address, the time of your visit, and your browser's user agent. This data is not linked to your identity beyond a single browsing session and is used strictly for server maintenance and security.
Brute-Force Detection
To prevent automated abuse and ensure the availability of our service, we temporarily track the number of search requests originating from a single IP address within a short period. This data, including your IP, request count, and the timestamp of your last request, is used solely for rate-limiting purposes. This information is not used for marketing or any other purpose, and it is automatically purged every 60 seconds.
Data Storage (Local Caching)
The application uses a local SQLite3 database on the server to cache search results. This is done to improve performance and reduce redundant API calls. This cache is not linked to individual users and contains only public data from the OpenFEC API.
Third-Party Services
Our application relies on the OpenFEC API. By using our service, you are subject to the terms of service and privacy policies of the Federal Election Commission (FEC).
